Caribbean Soca Queen to Perform at Miramar Cultural Center

Celebration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month 

MIRAMAR – Crowned the undisputed “Queen of SOCA” by fans worldwide, her powerful, emotional vocals and high-energy live shows are legendary in Caribbean music. Alison Hinds will bring all that and more, to the Miramar Cultural Center on Friday, June 19th at 8:00 p.m. for a one-of-a-kind show in celebration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month.

The show will be a celebration of Caribbean music and Hinds will display her wide range as a performer, delivering her classic hits such as  “Roll It Gal,” “Togetherness,” and “Faluma,” as well as her  latest songs to date.  Alison will also perform classic calypsos, soulful ballads and reggae including the Dancehall track ‘Bruk It Down’ a remix originally recorded with Mr. Vegas.

As the Caribbean Soca Queen she brings a lot of energy and goodwill to the Center and we anticipate a superb night of entertaining music to celebrate Caribbean-American Heritage Month.”

 

Born in London and raised in Barbados, Hinds first made an impression when she came third in the Richard Stoute Teen talent contest in 1987. She then became the lead vocalist for the popular band Square One, joining in 1987 and recording several albums with the band before leaving in 2004 after her daughter Saharan was born. When Alison is not performing she takes time to work as an advocate for causes such as AIDS awareness, Women’s rights, the Diabetes foundation as well as organizations for disabled and physically challenged children.

 

Alison’s performance will be very special at the Miramar Cultural Center, as she will be very intimate with the audience, transporting them on a musical journey with stirring displays of passion and soul delivering her special blend of music and dance in a showcase of diverse Caribbean music and more.

 

Also appearing on the show will be comedian Rohan Gunter, who will deliver a humorous set to start the evening’s entertainment.  Gunter will tackle a wide range of topics as he takes a comical look at everyday Caribbean life compared to living in the United States.
