Thanksgiving Service for the life of Vin Martin
ATLANTA – A Service of thanksgiving for the life of former Jamaica Honorary Consul to Atlanta and prominent Attorney, Vin Martin, OD will be held at the Springfield Baptist church in Conyers, Atlanta Georgia on Friday, August 1, 2014 commencing at 1PM.
Mr. Martin who passed away on Wednesday, July 23, one week shy of his 71st birthday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after a long illness was born on July 31, 1943 in Jackson Town, Trelawny. He served as Jamaica’s Honorary Consul to Atlanta for sixteen years demitting office in April 2013.
The former Honorary Consul served as chairman of the Atlanta Montego Bay Sister City committee as well as chairman of the Atlanta Sister City Health Mission to Montego Bay. Under his leadership, the Health Mission served thousands of underserved individuals in Montego Bay and contributed goods and services valued at thousands of US dollars.
Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Stephen Vasciannie and Jamaica’s Consul General to Miami Franz Hall have paid tribute to Mr. Martin, hailing him as a source of guidance and inspiration to many Jamaicans in the Diaspora particularly those living in Atlanta. He served his country with dedication and distinction.
The body will be interned on Saturday, August 2after a private ceremony. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife Hazel, sons Corey and Kieron.
