NEW YORK – (JIS) The National Minority Business Council (NMBC), on Tuesday, July 22, used the occasion of its 36th Anniversary Celebrations to recognize three outstanding female entrepreneurs.
The ceremonies were held at the 47th Floor Penthouse Suite of the Bank of New York Mellon, lower Manhattan.
The honourees included: Consul General of Jamaica in New York and former President/CEO of Geneive Brown Associates, Inc., Geneive Brown Metzger, President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 100 Hispanic Women, Inc., Shirley Rodriguez Remenesky; and President/CEO, Asian Women in Business, Inc, Bonnie Wong.

In recognizing the honorees, President/CEO of NMBC, John F. Robinson underscored the important role of small, minority and women owned businesses to the national and global economy.
He urged present and future entrepreneurs to consider the impact of globalization in relation to profitability. “For you to be profitable in today’s marketplace, you must go global,” noted Robinson.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Brown Metzger, a past member of the council, joined the other honourees in praising the outstanding leadership of Mr. Robinson over the years and his lifetime of advocacy for minority businesses.
Consul General Brown Metzger urged the membership of the Council to consider Jamaica as they seek to expand their businesses overseas through the vehicle of the international trade programme, a facility of the NMBC which provides technical assistance, education and training, and acts as a clearinghouse for business leads and information on export and import.
“My office will be delighted to field your questions and put you in touch with the right personnel in the relevant ministry and agency and to help in cutting the red tape and putting you on the red carpet to doing business in Jamaica,” she told the audience, which included Fritz McClymont, former Managing Director of the Montego Bay Bus Company, Heyward B. Davenport, Regional Director-US Department of Commerce, and Claire P. Scanlon, Vice President of the Bank of New York Mellon, and an advisory committee member of the NMBC who served as Master of Ceremonies.
