Former Jamaica Honorary Consul, Vin Martin to receive Sister Cities International highest award posthumously

ATLANTA – Former Chairman of the Atlanta Montego Bay Sister Cities Committee and Honorary Consul to Atlanta, Vin Martin will posthumously receive the Global Citizens Diplomatic Award, one of the highest such awards to be conferred on an individual by the Sister Cities International.

Mr. Martin will be recognized for his service of over twenty years as chairman of the Atlanta Montego Bay Sister Cities Committee.

The presentation will take place at the Sister Cities 2015 International Gala, at the US Chamber of Commerce Hall of Flags, in Washington DC, on March 10, 2015.  The award will be accepted by his wife Hazel Martin and sons Corey and Kieron Martin.  The event is to be attended by over 30 ambassadors, members of congress, municipal officials and community and citizen leaders.

For over twenty years, the late Honorary Consul was the driving force behind the Atlanta Montego Bay Sister Cities health mission to Jamaica, which provided needed healthcare to citizens of Montego Bay and its environs, by a cadre of health professionals.  Members of the health mission treated over 60,000 patients and provided medical supplies worth in excess of two billion Jamaican dollars.

Mr. Martin who served in the capacity of Honorary Consul to Atlanta for over sixteen years demitted office in 2013.   He died on July23, 2014 after a long illness.

For his invaluable contribution to the Atlanta  and Jamaica, Mr. Martin was awarded the Order of Distinction, the Prime Minister’s Me dal of Appreciation and the Governor General’s Achievement Diaspora Award.
