City Of Miramar Launches New Small & Local Business Initiative

Miramar 60thMIRAMAR – The City of Miramar launched its Small & Local Business Program on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at its Inaugural Small & Local Business Expo.

This initiative was spearheaded by the City’s Procurement Department to enhance contracting opportunities for qualified businesses when the City is looking to procure goods and services.  The program focuses on specific opportunities up to $2,500 in value.  It also ensures that businesses receive five preferential points when bidding on City contracts.

The City of Miramar Small & Local Business Expo was held to give small and local businesses first hand exposure to the City’s processes “The City focused on the key objectives of the targeted program, assisting businesses with getting qualified and ensuring that they were properly classified in the City’s system,” said Randy Cross, Procurement Director.  He further added, “The mission of having businesses properly identified in the City’s system is an on-going process.  It ensures that businesses can have as many opportunities as categorically possible to do business with the City.”

There were more than 180 businesses that attended the Expo and 40 that successfully utilized the on-the-spot assistance delivered by the Expo vendors of the Broward County Office of Small Business & Economic Development, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Miramar Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, Career Source Broward, the City’s Community and Economic Development Department and the Florida Women Business Center (FWBC).

The City also took the opportunity to announce additional community relations initiatives going live January 2016 that place an emphasis on Small & Local Business in the City of Miramar.  These engagement programs facilitated out of the City Manager’s Office of Marketing & Public Relations will provide FREE marketing services promoting the patronage of Miramar businesses.

“When we promote our businesses, we elevate our City and send the message to small & local businesses that it’s the ‘Right’ time to be in the City of Miramar!” stated the City’s Chief of Marketing & Public Relations, Natasha Hampton.
