Palm Bay’s First Caribbean Film Festival Accepting Submissions

PALM BAY  – There is now one more avenue for Caribbean filmmakers to showcase their work to the Diaspora, at the upcoming Caribbean Film Festival.

The Palm Bay Caribe Film Festival, hosted by the Brevard Caribbean American Sports & Cultural Association (BCASCA), will have its first staging beginning June 1, 2017, the start of Caribbean-American Heritage month.

The Caribbean Film Festival event is being staged in partnership with BarriVision Films, Jamaican filmmakers and producers of award-winning Jamaican Gospel movies, Just Another Friday and The Gift Everlasting.

The Palm Bay Caribe Film Festival, which kicks off with a Red Carpet Opening Night and ends with an Awards Show, will feature an array of films including documentaries, shorts and features screened over a three-day period. There are also plans to screen films at a local college as a part of a cultural awareness and cultural exchange initiative. Billed as a family-friendly festival.

“The Palm Bay/Melbourne area is home to a very large Caribbean population that is always hungry for Caribbean culture,” commented Michael “Barri” Brown of BarriVision. “The partnership with BCASCA, a vibrant organization known for promoting Caribbean culture, ensures that the festival will be well received in the community.”

All the films featured will have one thing in common. A Caribbean connection. “Whether they were produced or directed by Caribbean nationals, feature Caribbean actors, filmed in the Caribbean or tell Caribbean stories, Palm Bay Caribe Film Festival is interested,” said Barri. “However, while we recognize and accept the many aspects of our Caribbean reality, we are hoping to attract many films that are suitable for all audiences.”
