Fellow Jamaicans,
There is nothing like a Christmas in Jamaica – we fondly recall the white washed tree trunks, feverish cleaning of the house, sorrel drying in the sun, the fruits soaking for the pudding, attending Church, visiting with family and sharing the typical holiday fare.
As we relive the traditions of the Season, let us not lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas – it is a time of renewal, hope, gratitude, sharing and generosity. Let us also remember the less fortunate, the vulnerable and the marginalized persons in our communities during the festive Season.
In keeping with the spirit of gratitude inspired by the Season, I extend sincere thanks to the Jamaican community organizations, corporate entities, and individuals in South Florida, and in all other areas within the jurisdiction of the Consulate-General, for their continued contribution to the development of Jamaica and also, to their adopted country.
Looking ahead, one of the ways in which the Government is seeking to deepen the engagement with the Diaspora is through the Mapping Jamaica’s Diaspora Project, an online survey tool designed to obtain demographical information. This would allow for the development of relevant and appropriate policies that would be informed by hard figures and information. I encourage all of you to visit www.mapjadiaspora.iom.int to complete the survey.
We also look forward to welcoming you to Jamaica in June of next year, for the 6th Biennial Diaspora Conference that will be important in charting the way forward in the spirit of partnership and support.
