Jamaica’s Amoy Levy Sings A New Song In Canada
TORONTO, Canada – Those familiar with Amoy Levy will testify to the recording artiste’s outstanding passion for her music. Dedicated, ambitious and focused – insiders sense she is destined for even greater things.
The soulful Canadian-based Caribbean musician evokes the spirit of her region which is why Amoy Levy was selected as Marketplace Excellence’s West Indian of the Week.
Levy was born to Jamaican parents – her mother is from Old Harbour and her father a native of St. Mary – who instilled in her the importance of acknowledging and remembering one’s roots. Because of this, Levy has made numerous trips to the island, and has performed at selected venues.
She is the quintessential musical artiste, blessed with an impressive range and undeniable God-given talent as she croons to the rhythms of contemporary Gospel, Pop, Jazz, R&B and Rock. With parents founded upon a strong Christian faith, Church was and continues to be a huge part of Levy’s life and she remains true to her purpose.
“I was brought up and instilled with Jamaican culture and values,” said Amoy Levy, “and every aspect of my life and upbringing has been influenced by my Caribbean and Christian roots.”
Levy’s musical journey started in a family group called “Zion’s Youth.” Her outstanding leadership qualities coupled with her exceptional singing voice impressed many so it wasn’t long before she later became Choir Director for the Youth Outreach Mass Choir. Their debut album “Just Look” was nominated for a Juno Award and Urban Music Award in Canada.
Since then, Levy hasn’t slowed down and has been involved in a number of successful solo and group projects that have helped to cement her as one of the best talents across Canada’s music industry.
With significant touring experience under her belt, Levy has performed with well-known artistes such as Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Danny Brooks, Fred Hammond and John P. Kee, and recently stirred the audience with a rendition of the Canadian National Anthem at a University of the West Indies fundraiser in Toronto.
Since 2009, she has been a featured soloist in the stage production, “The Evolution of Gospel”, once again proving her versatility and unquestionable talent. Levy recently released an unplugged CD and is currently in the studio completing her first live album which is being prepared for release.
Her next major appearance is opening for internationally known gospel artiste Kirk Franklin next month, on June 4 at the Queensway Cathedral in Toronto.
