Top Tourism Director, David L. Shields Appointed General Manager of Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours

Montego Bay, Jamaica – Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours is pleased to announce the appointment of David L. Shields as the company’s new General Manager, effective February 1, 2011.

Shields will spearhead the company’s expansion into new markets – Island Routes is the Caribbean’s fastest growing tour company with outposts currently in Jamaica, Saint Lucia, the Bahamas, Antigua and the Turks & Caicos Islands – and will also be responsible for all new product and business development, as well as advertising and marketing campaigns worldwide.

David Shields

Shields comes to Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours from the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), where he was appointed deputy director of tourism in January 2004 and was responsible for the global marketing initiatives for Jamaica’s multi-billion dollar tourism product. Prior to his post at the JTB, he served as director of market development at Air Jamaica Vacations, and was the assistant director of tourism at the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.

Shields received Travel Agent Magazine’s “Rising Star in Tourism – Destinations” award for 1998/99, honoring his contribution to the development of tourism in the Cayman Islands. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in management studies and a Master of Science degree in accounting from the University of the West Indies. Shields also earned a diploma in restaurant management from the Colonel Sanders Technical Institute in Kentucky, and another in travel and tourism marketing from London’s Henry Stewart Conference Studies. He has completed courses in planning, creating and managing Web sites at the University of Toronto, and at the Global Knowledge Training Center in Santa Clara, CA.
