The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly Premieres On South Florida’s SFL (The CW Network) Oct. 5th

Pembroke Pines – On the heels of a successful run throughout the Caribbean islands, comes the TV-magazine series “The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly – South Florida Edition”, premiering on South Florida’s SFL (The CW Network), Sunday, October 5 at 11:30AM with a half-hour episode.

With a diverse cast of hosts and guests, “The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly – South Florida Edition” offers a window into South Florida’s Caribbean-American community. Segments include interviews with notable movers and shakers, a Grace Foods sponsored Cooking Caribbean segment, visits to community events, tips & tricks, news bites and the popular weekly opinion piece presented by host / producer Calibe Thompson.

Non-Caribbean viewers will learn about the fun, smart, appealing allure of West Indian culture. Caribbeans will see the people and events who make our community proud.

The premiere episode includes a joke-laced outing to a pre-carnival event, a thoughtful and hilarious conversation with Trinidadian sprinting legend Ato Boldon, Chef Irie putting his spin on a Trinidadian Pumpkin Choka, and an opinion piece on Caribbean Exceptionalism. Episodes throughout the season will include inspiring interviews with guests like entertainers Tessanne Chin, Shaggy and Kevin Lyttle, local players like Marlon Hill, David Muir and Tanya Marie, and political figures like Marleine Bastien, Jennifer Carroll and Franz Hall. Jamaican Chef Irie, Barbadian Chef Barbara and others will present traditional and updated Caribbean dishes. The team will visit Caribbean events like Miami-Broward Carnival, Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival, music and charity events and more.

“This is the first step of great strides to come for our diaspora community,” Thompson said. “The United States has a gaping void when it comes to representing the English-speaking Caribbean in mainstream media. Our teams at Caribcast, Jamaicans.com, Blondie Ras Productions and all the media partners who have shown their support are making every effort to change that.”

“The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly” debuted internationally in April 2014 on Caribvision and One Caribbean television networks, and the show’s premiere season is currently in its second run in over 20 Caribbean countries and 8 North American regions via those channels. The show has been described as engaging, fun, thoughtful, dynamic, well-produced and highly entertaining.

The producers are currently soliciting sponsors and advertisers. Interested parties are invited to contact them at [email protected].
