Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure®

MIAMI – Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is partnering with Marathon Bahamas to host the Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure® on Saturday, January 15 on Paradise Island, Nassau as part of a full weekend of activities, culminating with Marathon Bahamas on January 16 on Junkaroo Beach, Nassau.

The event will take place on January 15, 2011, start time, 6:00 a.m. on Paradise Island, Bahamas. The entry fee is $35 (to Dec. 31, 2010) and $45 (Jan 1 – race day).

The Bahamas Race for the Cure is an opportunity for people of all ages to celebrate survivorship, remember those we have lost to the disease and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Also included at the Race is a special performance by award-winning gospel artists MaryMary. By participating in this event, you will raise awareness about a health issue that affects thousands of women in The Bahamas and help make a difference in how breast cancer is understood, diagnosed and treated.

Komen for the Cure Headquarters has been working in The Bahamas since 2008 in partnership with the Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative, the Cancer Society of the Bahamas and the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support group, among others. In 2009, Komen for the Cure awarded Dr. Judith Hurley of the University of Miami School of Medicine a two-year grant to evaluate the genetic risk of Bahamian women with breast and ovarian cancer.

The Bahamas Race for the Cure will be Komen’s second Race location in the Caribbean and all funds raised by the Race and Marathon Bahamas will benefit women’s cancer programs in The Bahamas, including The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative (BBCI), Cancer Society of The Bahamas, and Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group.
