Soca Heavy Weight Couple Bunji Garlin and Fay- Ann Lyons to Headline the Miami Carnival 2010 Concert at Sun Life Stadium

MIAMI – The Miami Broward One Carnival Host committee is hosting the 2010 Miami Carnival on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Sun Life Stadium. This event which promises to be one of the largest cultural festivals is a time when unity is forged through music and culture.

Everyone is invited to experience the colorful pageantry and infectious music of the Caribbean.

The impressive list of grand marshals that include, Mayor Shirley Gibson of the City of Miami Gardens, Miami Dade County Commissioner Chairman, Dennis Moss, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan, Florida State Representative Hazel Rogers, Councilman Oliver Gilbert of City of Miami Gardens, and Miss Miami Carnival, Shelissa Gomes. The International Soca King Machel Montano will lead the parade.

The parade of bands and masqueraders will begin at 12 noon on 199th Street and 37th Ave., East on NW 199th Street and 26th Ave, left on NW 26th Ave to NW 203rd street into Sun Life Stadium festival area where patrons will enjoy the exhibit of colorful costumes, food and drinks from the Caribbean and an all-star line up of Caribbean music heavyweights.

The impressive artist line up includes: Traffik, JW Blaze, Shal Marshal, Rikki Jai, TC, Buffy, Camille, Sir Oungku, Red Hot Flames, Rebels Band, T&TEC Gayatones, Jashan Huges, Kaushun Band, Tizzy, Saphire, Neeshad Sultan, Oscar B, Andy Singh, CL, Blade.

The concert will be headlined by International Ragga soca artist, Bunji Garlin and his wife three time Trinidad and Tobago Carnival Road March Champion, Fay -Ann Lyons. This powerhouse couple has been a major driving force behind soca music for almost a decade.

The Miami Broward One Carnival host committee will also be presenting a Cultural Achievement Award to Soca Artist Machel Montano for his contributions to the soca industry and Carnival Culture worldwide. Native and International recording artiste, Pitbull will be present on stage to present Machel Montano with his “Cultural Achievement Award.

“There is an old adage that says it is always good to return home. On that note, I want to welcome the 2010 Miami Carnival home to its place of origin. After 24 years, there have been many significant changes to the area which now allows us to have a more professional relationship with the Carnival organization. We take pride in fostering a renewed venue for Miami Carnival in the City of Miami Gardens for 2010,” says Shirley Gibson, City of Miami Gardens Mayor.

“The roads have been paved into Sun Life Stadium Home of the Miami Dolphins. Carnival will never be the same. We have scaled into a major league international venue and it is now up to our friends, masqueraders, and community stake holders to keep us climbing a notch at a time,states Mario Zamora, Chairman of Miami Broward One Carnival host committee.
