Miami Gardens – Dr. Roslyn Artis, President of Florida Memorial University (FMU), was recently invited for membership into the prestigious International Women’s Forum (IWF).

The International Women’s Forum advances leadership across careers, cultures and continents by connecting the world’s most preeminent women of significant and diverse achievement. Membership in the IWF is by invitation only and is influenced by definitive international standards. Members are committed to bettering global leadership today and cultivating women leaders of tomorrow.

To date, there are more than 6,000 women leaders participating in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia and North America.

“I am truly honored and humbled by this wonderful recognition,” Dr. Artis said. “As an IWF member, I look forward to connecting with exceptional women leaders across the globe and providing input on executive leadership and institutional effectiveness, in turn bringing greater visibility to higher education and furthering FMU’s strategic vision for the future.”

In February 2014, Dr. Artis was unanimously appointed by Florida Memorial University’s Board of Trustees as the 13th president of South Florida’s only Historically Black College or University (HBCU). She is the first woman president in the university’s 136-year history. On campus, she has spearheaded a series of new and innovative programs for students and is working to improve corporate and community relations and endowment initiatives for the institution.

Dr. Artis is also an active member of the South Florida community and has been appointed to multiple community and corporate boards and associations, increasing involvement and exposure of the university significantly.

Prior to embarking on a career in academia, Dr. Artis served as partner at Assessment by Design, LLC, a consulting firm; attorney at the Wooton Law Firm, and associate attorney at Brown & Levicoff PLLC, among other notable positions.
