KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Association of Vintage Artistes & Affiliates (JAVAA) will host a tribute to “Bob Marley & Dennis Brown, the King & Crown Prince of Reggae” concert on Friday, February 6, at the Gardens, Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston, as part of the Reggae Month celebrations.
According to Chairman of JAVAA, Frankie Campbell, patrons can expect a night of spectacular entertainment.
“It is going to be exciting, so everybody should really come out and support. The show will feature the music of Bob Marley and Dennis Brown and the line up is so incredible, you will be able to witness a real great array of Jamaican performances,” he boasted in an interview with JIS News.
The concert is in aid of JAVAA and profits will go to assisting the vintage artistes.
“We have been struggling in the last few years to even bury some of the stalwarts that have gone before us…we are trying to protect the ones who are around (that) in case anything happens we can send them off in a dignified way,” he added.
The star-studded list of performers for the concert includes John Holt, Gregory Isaacs, Nadine Sutherland, George Nooks, Sugar Minott, Ernie Smith, Pablo Moses, the Heptones, Charmaine Limonius, Tinga Stewart, Michael Rutherford, Dwight Pinkney, Roy Rayon, Angella Stewart, Lynford “Country Livin” McIntosh, Sam Carty, Winsome Benjamin, Informative Historyman, Elaine Peart, Class Act, and Deh Deh.
Backing bands will be Fab Five Inc. and Unique Vision. There will be short performances from the fast-rising Roots Underground and Downstairs groups.
Mr. Campbell is also extending an invitation to all the Caribbean people and English visitors who will be here, for the test match between the West Indies and England, to take some time out to attend the concert.
“We are at the Pegasus Hotel, so you know the security is great, the ambience is excellent, because we are in the Garden.It’s a great environment, great show, great evening of really good, clean fun,” he remarked.
The show will start at exactly 8:00 p.m. and end at 1:00 a.m.
Mr. Campbell also commended the government’s decision to establish February as Reggae Month. He said that it was an excellent idea in light of what the music has done for Jamaica worldwide.
“We should have done this years ago, where we could celebrate one whole month of Jamaica’s reggae music and performers,” he added.
