Reggae Artist Gyptian To Perform At The 2011 Unity In The Community MLK Celebration In Miami Gardens

Miami Gardens – The City of Miami Gardens will host its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday celebration on Monday, January 17, 2011, at Miami Carol City Park, located at 3201 NW 185th Street, Miami Gardens, from at 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

National recording reggae artist, Gyptian will headline the 7th annual festival along with other local talent from the South Florida area. Gyptian, rose to international acclaim when his debut single “Serious Times” hit the top of the local and overseas reggae charts, and was declared Jamaica’s Most Important Song of 2005. His current rock steady reggae single, “Hold Yuh” peaked at 91 on the Billboard Hot 100, 33 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart, number 6 on the Billboard Heatseekers Songs Chart and topped the Reggae Digital Songs chart for nine consecutive weeks.

Earlier this week the City held a number of other events that promoted community awareness in celebration of Dr. King’s birthday which included the 6th Annual Oratorical Contest, 4th Annual Poetry Contest, 3rd annual Break Out Artist Contest and the 2nd annual Art in the Gardens contests.

Unity in the community is a free family event and the City of Miami Gardens encourages all residents to take part in the 7th Annual Unity in the Community, MLK Celebration. Admission and parking are free.
