Organization for troubled teens in South Florida headed by a Jamaican
SUNRISE – House of Hope, South Florida, an affiliate of National House of Hope, is a Christian, non-denominational, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to “Reach, Rehabilitate and Restore troubled and hurting teenagers to their families by providing counseling, training, and a residential program when needed” is headed by a Jamaican, Rev. Suzanne P. Marcellus.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Miramar, Florida, Rev. Suzanne P. Marcellus graduated from Nova High School, and pursued a Christian education at Trinity International University, earning her a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies and Psychology. She founded House of Hope, South Florida because of a vision she received in February of 2002.
Two years later she miraculously attended a training seminar with National House of Hope where, as she walked the Orlando campus, saw the vision that the Lord had shown her come to life before her eyes.
WALK A THON
On Saturday, January 3, 2009 House of Hope, South Florida presents its first annual “Teens Walk for Teens” Walk-A-Thon in the beautiful, spacious Central Park, located at 9151 NW 2nd Street, Plantation, FL. Registration begins at 9 AM with the walk commencing at 10 AM.
Over one thousand parents and teenagers from Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach high schools and churches will be walking while the teens inform and invoke positive change amongst their peers. “Teens Walk for Teens” is an awareness campaign for the challenges teenagers face throughout our communities, while offering hope to troubled teens and their parents.
This is an opportunity for teenagers to make their voices heard through dramatic, musical, or poetic expression. Teenagers are invited to use this venue to share their struggles, successes and encourage their peers to make positive decisions.
According to Rev. Suzanne Marcellus, “Teens and their parents are crying out for assistance, understanding and refuge. ‘Teens Walk for Teens’ is your opportunity to work alongside us and help shed light on the issues teens face while having a great time at the park.”
Teenagers are facing many pressing issues, such as drug and alcohol abuse, depression, sexual promiscuity and violence. House of Hope, South Florida is reaching out to these individuals and their families.
The goal of “Teens Walk for Teens” is to create awareness and raise $200,000 towards purchase of a 9.06 acre property in Davie, FL. Upon purchase of this $2.5 million dollar property House of Hope, South Florida will provide Individual and Family Counseling, Parenting Classes, and a Teen Discipleship Program. Within two years after acquiring the property House of Hope, South Florida plans to break ground and build a facility to provide short term Residential Care for teenagers, a Counseling Center, Christian Education for residents, and Facilitate Parent Training and Family Life Workshops.
