Morocco assistance to Grenada confirmed

St George’s, Grenada – Grenada has received a commitment of direct financial assistance and offers of academic scholarships from the government and people of Morocco.

As part of an initial package of assistance, Grenada is set to receive EC$1 million and 10 scholarships annually for the next three years, Foreign Affairs Minister Peter David has announced.

He added that Grenada also stands to benefit from a shipment of fertilizer from the world’s largest fertilizer company in Morocco. The fertilizer will be shared among OECS member-states, with Grenada expected to receive approximately 25,000 bags.

“As Foreign Affairs Minister, I am pleased that we have had confirmation on several areas of discussions and our focus now is to have our students embark on the various areas of study as soon as possible,” Mr. David said.

His comments followed last month’s visit to Morocco at the invitation of that country’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Taib Fassi Fihr.

The Moroccan Foreign Minister had earlier visited Grenada where he met Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas and Minister David. While Here, Mr. Fassi Fihr had signed an agreement in which his country has promised to assist Grenada.

Details of the agreement were finalised during Mr. David’s just-ended trip to Morocco.

The EC$1 million financial package is earmarked for the development and enhancement of a number of community projects.
