John McCain Makes VP Announcement in Ohio

OHION – John McCain made history on Friday, August 29 by announcing that he had selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate.

John McCain and Governor Palin appeared together on stage early that afternoon to the roaring cheers of 15,000 enthusiastic supporters. Before Governor Palin came on stage, the crowd celebrated John McCain’s 72nd Birthday by loudly singing “Happy Birthday” for him three times.

John McCain gave a passionate introduction for his new running mate, who walked on stage with her husband Todd and four of her children. Since Governor Palin is not a familiar face to most Americans, we wanted to give some background on her record as governor and elsewhere.

In Alaska, she challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill.

As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.
