Marlon James‘s break-out recognition as the recipient of the prestigious 2015 Man Booker Prize is no surprise to those familiar with his career. Born in Jamaica in 1970 and a graduate of the University of the West Indies, his first novel, John Crow’s Devil, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for first fiction, the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and was a New York Times Editors’ Choice.

The Book of Night Women won the 2010 Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the Minnesota Book Award, was a finalist for the 2010 National Book Critics Circle Award in fiction, and an NAACP Image Award.

In addition to winning the Man Booker, A Brief History of Seven Killings was also a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature for fiction, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for fiction, and the Minnesota Book Award.

A Brief History of Seven Killings, which begins in 1970s Kingston, is James’s fictional exploration of a dangerous and unstable era in Jamaica’s history that would claim so many lives, including that of the famed Bob Marley.

Admission tickets will be required for entrance into this presentation with Marlon James. Tickets are $15 for the general audience (plus a $2 handling fee charged by our ticketing provider, IMG Tickets). Tickets for this event will be available on November 4, 2015 at 10 a.m.
