Jamaica’s Prime Minister to pay official visit to Cuba

KINGSTON, Jamaica – (JIS)Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, will leave Jamaica on Sunday, May 4, on an official visit to Cuba. The visit is in response to an invitation extended to him in February by Cuban President, Raul Castro, shortly after assuming office as President.

The Prime Minister will hold discussions with President Castro and other senior Cuban officials on an expanded program of bilateral co-operation in areas such as healthcare, food production, water resources development, housing and tourism.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. the Hon. Kenneth Baugh; Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer; Minister of Water and Housing, Dr. the Hon. Horace Chang; Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett; Minister of Agriculture, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton and a team of officials.

During the absence of both Prime Minister Golding and Deputy Prime Minister Baugh, the Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Karl Samuda, will be in charge of the government.

The Prime Minister and his delegation will return to the Jamaica on Wednesday, May 7.
