Washington, DC – Jamaica’s Health Minister Dr. Fenton Ferguson is leading Jamaica’s delegation at the Caribbean Public Health Agency Conference now underway at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The Caribbean Public Health Agency conference, which started on Thursday, September 24 and staged over five days, will bring together health ministers and practitioners from the Caribbean region to examine and discuss various issues as it relates to health in the Caribbean.
Key Issues Addressed At Caribbean Public Health Agency Conference
Health Minister Dr. Ferguson, who is also the outgoing chairman of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CPHA), said that health ministers will meet over the weekend to discuss a range of health policies for the region. The ministers will address the following topics: strengthening cancer prevention control, how to reduce tobacco use, the issues of infectious diseases, environmental issues and strengthening distribution channels, as well as the quality of medicine available for use in the Caribbean.
The CPHA outgoing chairman, Dr. Ferguson presided over his last council meeting yesterday, which was held at the Embassy of Jamaica. Prior to that, he paid a courtesy call on Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Ralph Thomas.

He is the first Jamaican government minister to call on the ambassador since he assumed office two weeks ago.
The minister’s delegation comprised of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Heath, Dr. Kevin Harvey and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Marion Bullock-Bucasse. They will return to the island on Tuesday, September 29.
