ATLANTA – Atlanta-based Jamaican organization, Integrity Children’s Fund, has contributed more than US$200,000 over the past six years, to a number of learning institutions in Kingston, Jamaica’s inner-city communities.
According to President of the Fund, Major Karl Chambers, the money is used to defray the monthly salaries of teachers at the Operation Restoration Christian School and the Joy Town Learning Centre in Trench Town, St. Andrew as well as Peter’s Rock Preparatory School in rural St. Andrew.
Speaking at the Fund’s annual Christmas benefit concert in Lithonia, Georgia on December 14, Major Chambers informed that over the past 11 months, the organisation has contributed more than US$40,000 towards the payment of teachers’ salaries at the three institutions.
Major Chambers said, “the institutions rely heavily on the support and the Fund plans to increase the contribution next year. He further disclosed plans to extend the monthly financial support to the Team Work Associates School in Montego Bay, St. James which accepts and educates troubled teenagers from the Flanker community”.
In his remarks at the function, Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Atlanta, Vin Martin, commended Integrity Children’s Fund for its “tireless efforts” and financial contribution towards bringing hope and opportunity to disenfranchised youth in Jamaica.
Mr. Martin said it is heartening to know that Jamaicans, who are living abroad, continue to lend support and assist a number of projects in the country.
Jamaica’s Olympic silver and bronze medalist, Kerron Stewart, who was a special guest at the function, was honoured by Integrity Children’s Fund for her outstanding performance at the Beijing Olympics.
The large audience was entertained with performances by singer Judy Mowatt, musician Jon Williams, and the drama group of Integrity Children’s Fund.
