Jamaican Diaspora Southern United States Welcomes New Consul General For Region

MIAMI – The Jamaican Diaspora Southern United States extends a warm welcome to Mrs. Sandra Grant Griffiths as the new Consul General serving the region of thirteen states in the Southern United States.

Mrs. Grant-Griffiths previously served as Director of Protocol in the Foreign Ministry, and Chief of Protocol for Jamaica. She succeeds Mr. Ricardo Allicock who returned to Jamaica to assume the same position.

The new Consul General has done substantial work with the Jamaican Diaspora through her position as Director, Communication and Liaison, in the then Returning Residents Facilitation Unit, 1993-1998, and later as Director of the Jamaica Overseas and Consular Affairs Department, 1993 to 2004.

During this time, she was responsible for the coordination and implementation of policy for the establishment of Jamaica Returning Residents Program and Outreach Strategies for Jamaican Diaspora communities, including the return of skilled Jamaican nationals under the International Organization for Migration’s Return and Reintegration Projects.

She also coordinated the program of activities for engagement of the Jamaican Community Overseas, including the inaugural Jamaican Diaspora Symposium and Jamaican Diaspora Conference, 2004.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Grant-Griffiths as our new and primary liaison to the Government of Jamaica. We look forward to working with her to further the development of the Jamaican Diaspora for the benefit of our local communities around the region and in the best interests of Jamaica,” stated Marlon A. Hill, Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board Member to the Southern United States.
