Bahamian author finds poetry in family, friends and faith

WESTON – As a New Year begins, resolutions are often made with regards to family, friends and faith.

Collis Sherman Bell, an educator and novice author, who was born in Bimini, Bahamas and currently lives in South Florida has published her first book, “Pockets of My Heart”. Bell’s book celebrates family, friends and faith and is a labor of love.

Collis Sherman Bell whets your appetite for fresh and contemporary poetry in ‘Pockets of My Heart’. Bell uses humor, wit and strong emotions to paint vivid and colorful pictures of herself, her family, special friends and relationships. As a wife and mother, she has drawn from over twenty-five years of family life experiences.

Bell writes wonderfully engaging scenarios about those closest to her heart. She allows you to peek into her family life with poems like ‘It’s Only Fair!’ which tells of her husband’s love of football and ‘Winner’ which celebrates her daughter’s college graduation. Bell stated that she wrote “Pockets of My Heart” to commemorate her fiftieth birthday and to celebrate twenty-five years of marriage and family life and credits a former church member with encouraging and praying with her for the realization of this book. Bell hopes that “Pockets of My Heart” will cause readers to reflect positively on their family, friends and faith and perhaps find poetry in their own memories.

Collis Sherman Bell, is employed by the Broward County School Board and works at a local elementary school. She is an alumnus of Prairie View A&M University of Texas, an HBCU and a member of the Broward County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (A Public Service Sorority founded in 1913).

Bell has resided in several foreign countries and several states in the USA. She currently resides in Weston, with her husband Willie, their children, Candice and W.J. and their pet dog, Beauty.
