Jamaican Born Doctor Joins Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center As Urologic Oncologist

MIAMI – Chad R. Ritch, M.D., M.B.A., has joined the faculty at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of UHealth – University of Miami Health System. A fellowship-trained urologist with expertise in urologic oncology, Dr. Ritch specializes in the treatment of prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancer and is seeing patients at UHealth in Plantation. He has extensive training in both traditional open and robotic/minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Dr. Ritch was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and came to the U.S. for undergraduate studies at Duke University. He then matriculated at the University of Chicago, where he was awarded the Steven A. Weiner Scholarship to simultaneously pursue a joint degree in medicine (M.D.) and business (M.B.A.) from the Pritzker School of Medicine and Booth School of Business. He then completed his residency in urology at Columbia University Medical Center/NY Presbyterian Hospital followed by a two-year fellowship in urologic oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Dr. Ritch is interested in prostate cancer biology and outcomes as it relates to race and ethnicity, particularly in African-American and Caribbean men. In addition, he has conducted research comparing robotic and open surgical approaches for prostate cancer, as well as, investigated novel biomarkers for kidney cancer. He is currently studying the effects of nutritional supplementation on outcomes following surgery for bladder cancer, has presented at multiple national and international meetings and has authored numerous book chapters and publications in peer-reviewed medical journals.
