Greater Fort Lauderdale Celebrates Caribbean Heritage Month With Annual Carib Style Week

From High Fashion Pop-Ups to Food and Style Fusion Events, Carib Style Week, June 19-26 to Showcase Greater Fort Lauderdale Rich Multicultural Offerings

GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE  In celebration of June’s Caribbean Heritage Month, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau in conjunction with the Aifos Agency will proudly host the annual Westfield Carib Style Week, June 19-26, 2016. The week-long series of events will showcase the destination’s vast Caribbean style, creativity, fashion and food offerings.

“As one of the most diverse multi-ethnic urban areas in the country, second only to Queens, NY, Greater Fort Lauderdale is thrilled to host the annual Caribbean Style Week this year,” said Albert Tucker, vice president of Multicultural Business Development at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Our Caribbean heritage knows no bounds – from our rich history to our vibrant food, fashion and music offerings, Greater Fort Lauderdale overflows with endless Caribbean culture.”

From June 19 to June 30, Westfield Broward, located in Plantation, Florida will be home to the Westfield Fashion Pop-Up Experience, where shoppers can browse a carefully curated selection of lively designs created by Caribbean designers.

Confirmed designers include swim and active wear designer Chandra Maharaj Designs from Trinidad and Brazil, Trinidadian resort wear designer Homanic Designs, JA Sandal Company from Jamaica, Jamaica mens and womens wear designer Franz Christie, Guyana designer Sonia Noel and Carib Style Activewear from Trinidad, with additional designers to be announced.

“We strive to represent a region of talented designers through the production of Carib Style Week,” said Asa Sealy, CEO of Aifos Agency, which is organizing Carib Style Week. “The event will showcase some of the regions’ top designers and allow emerging ones a platform to introduce their work, all set in sunny Fort Lauderdale. We look forward to this year’s event and to welcoming those in search of the trendy Caribbean styles and patterns unique to the region and its top designers.”

The excitement continues on Friday, June 24 with Carnival Rocks the Runway, a pop-up fashion event from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am in downtown Fort Lauderdale at Revolution LIVE, where the top ten Carnival bands and designers from One Carnival, an annual bi-county Carnival event taking place in Broward and Miami-Dade, will hit the runway with artists from Trinidad and Barbados. Music will be provided by DJ Puffy and Friends, with a live performance by 5Star Akil. Tickets cost $25.

Saturday, June 25 marks a full day of Carib Style Week programming, starting with the Westfield CaribStyle Week Showcase that includes a Carib Style Beauty Bar at 11:00 am featuring the latest in hair products, make up and cutting edge improvements in skin and hair care. At 1:00 pm, shoppers can meet and greet designers and artists while enjoying live performances and fashions shows featuring the designs from the Westfield Fashion Pop-Up Experience.

Later that evening, Epicurean By Design from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am at the Warehouse in Fort Lauderdale will meld fashion and food as Caribbean chefs prepare sampling stations and pair dishes with Caribbean rums. Beats will be provided by LLCoolBlaze & Friends, tickets cost $65.

On Sunday, June 26, see the latest in Caribbean swimwear at the Bikinis and Brunch event from 12:00 to 6:00 pm at The W Fort Lauderdale Beach, while enjoying a Caribbean style buffet brunch and mimosas with music provided by Dr. Esan & LLCoolBlaze. Tickets cost $75, and private cabanas are available. For the second consecutive year, the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale-Plantation Hotel will be the host hotel for Westfield Carib Style Week.
