D’Vybz Band hits Number 1 On English Soca Chart
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The decision of the d’ Vybz Band to introduce a new blend of music to the entertainment and carnival scene in St. Kitts & Nevis is already paying dividends for the seven, (7), member group of talented Kittitian musicians.
The music from the band’s latest CD, titled, “Life”, has been in full rotation on many radio stations overseas, including various cities in England.
For the past two weeks, d’Vybz has occupied the Number One spot, on the popular West Indian chart, hosted weekly on the well known internet radio station, VIBES FM, operating out of Sheffield, England.
The hit tune that has been dominating the airwaves is DJ Play, from the band’s 2008 CD, released last December during national carnival in St. Kitts & Nevis.
According to the management of the group, this latest success is a welcome boost for the d’Vybz Band, which last year took the decision to experiment with a different style of music that mixed soca, hip hop and dance hall to create the type of sound that could be enjoyed by people of varied nationalities and tastes.
Since the release of DJ Play and other hard-hitting tracks from the 2008 CD, the band has received great reviews nationally and in the UK and United States.
The spread of the new sound has also picked up in the Virgin Islands and now the United Kingdom, with fans showering praises on d’Vybz for their new style and impressive music that could be enjoyed beyond the carnival season.
Other popular selections that are featured on the CD are Party in the Streets, So Wine, What If, and the title track, My Life.
The management has also disclosed that they are in the advance stages of development and planning for a number of other major projects that are being pursued for the promotion of the band and its music.
