WASHINGTON, DC – President and CEO of a leading international non-governmental organisation in Washington DC is offering congratulations to the newly elected St. Lucia government, led by Sir John Compton, the island nation’s father of independence.
In a short statement, Lelei LeLaulu said “the people of St. Lucia have spoken, and we would like to extend our best wishes to the new Prime Minister, and extend our support to his team as they embark on a new chapter in the sustainable development of St. Lucia”.
LeLaulu, a world authority on small island development and sustainable tourism, congratulated the St. Lucia Labour Party, led by outgoing Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony, and the United Workers Party on a spirited campaign, and the order and civility demonstrated by St. Lucians as they exercised their franchise.
“St. Lucia has been innovative in its quest to make tourism a wealth creation tool for its citizens, and we are committed to working with the new administration and the private sector in St. Lucia in the years ahead to build on those strides,” said LeLaulu, whose organisation recently staged the fifth anniversary of the Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism (CMEx) in Rodney Bay in October.
Counterpart was also one of the organisers of the huge World Tourism Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development in Porto Alegre, Brazil, this month.
Congratulations were also offered by Counterpart’s affiliate organisation in Barbados, Counterpart Caribbean, led by its chairman Dr. Basil Springer who also is a change engine consultant with the Caribbean Business Enterprise Trust (CBET). “We look forward to a continued cordial relationship as CMEx expands into the future. We stand ready to work with the new administration to build on its sustainable development foundation and help accelerate St. Lucia’s rate of growth in the years ahead,” Dr. Springer commented.
