Chief of OAS Electoral Observation Mission to Haiti Begins Preliminary Visit

PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti – The Chief of The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (EOM/OAS) in Haiti, the former Foreign Minister of Costa Rica, José Enrique Castillo, arrived this Friday in Port-au-Prince to begin his work related to the organization of the legislative elections of August 9.

During his visit the Chief of Mission will hold meetings with the President, Michel Martelly; the Foreign Minister, Lener Renaud; the Executive Director of the Provisional Electoral Council Mosler Georges; and with representatives of political parties and international organizations present in the country.

Beginning June 22, a mobile group of observers will visit the 10 departments of the country to gather information about the electoral process at the local level, the inscription of candidates, and the electoral campaign.
