CARICOM Secretary-General receives Global Leadership Award

GREATER GEORGETOWN, Guyana – CARICOM Secretary-General, His Excellency Edwin Carrington recently received the International Third World Leaders Association (ITWLA), Distinguished Global Leadership Award.

ITWLA, based in The Bahamas, is a global network of Christian leaders from more than 40 nations. Its membership encompasses leaders from among government officials, church leaders, athletes, business persons and educators. The Association is committed to providing relevant resources and skills refinement for global leaders.

The Bahamas Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) His Excellency Leonard Archer received the award on behalf of Secretary-General Carrington during the ITWLA’s 2007 Global Leadership Summit in Nassau, The Bahamas which was held from November, 5-8 2007.

The Distinguished Global Leadership Award is given to an individua1 who in the opinion of the Association has demonstrated international leadership in multiple disciplines and arenas, has rendered more than five (5) years of distinguished service and who could be considered a Mentor.

Secretary-General Carrington received the plaque and crystal vase which symbolised the award from Ambassador Archer at the CARICOM Secretariat’s Georgetown, Guyana Headquarters last December during the Ambassador’s farewell visit to the Secretariat.

In expressing his pleasure and appreciation in receiving the award the Secretary-General thanked the Ambassador for accepting it on his behalf and said he was humbled by the recognition bestowed on him by the ITWLA and even more so given the group’s foundations including a spiritual dimension

A national of Trinidad and Tobago, Secretary-General Carrington, who is also the recipient of national awards from a number of CARICOM Member States, the Dominican Republic and Italy including his nation’s highest honour the Trinity Cross, said, “Whatever I have done, has always been in the interest of this Region and has been dedicated to the improvement of the lives of the people of CARICOM and of the wider Caribbean”.
