Caribbean Diaspora Television Show Confirms Mainstream South Florida Broadcast

The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly, a dynamic, upbeat lifestyle television show focused on Caribbeans living outside of the islands, has announced that it will premiere on South Florida mainstream television this October. The groundbreaking show, which is the first in recent years to address South Florida’s English-speaking West Indian community, will air the first episode of its fourth quarter run on SFL / The CW Network on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 11:30AM. The show, which has already successfully broadcast a complete season throughout the Caribbean and in some North American states, will be repackaged to include South Florida specific content, and will be broadcast as The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly – South Florida Edition.

The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly – South Florida Edition is a TV magazine that incorporates the community from its home base in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, including new on and off screen talent. The weekly lineup includes colorful interviews, thought-provoking opinions, Caribbean-style cooking, helpful tips and tricks, interesting facts and a community entertainment feature.

Interview guests include diaspora influencers like Trinidadian champion sprinter Ato Boldon, White House Champion of Change Jamaican Felecia Hatcher and Haitian Freedom Fighter Marleine Bastien. The most controversial and popular segment of the show – The Diaspora Perspective, includes feisty and powerful perspectives from outspoken host / producer Calibe Thompson.

“The English-speaking Caribbean community makes up almost 10% of the South Florida population yet our diaspora community is not represented anywhere on mainstream television. We’d like to begin to change that with content that is intelligent but still reflects the fun side of our culture,” said Ms Thompson. “Our team is looking forward to growing quickly and to showing how great an impact we West Indians can make.”

The show has been described as engaging, fun, thoughtful, dynamic, well-produced and highly entertaining.
