BET J to celebrate Labor Day Festivities in Brooklyn

NEW YORK – BET J will take center stage at this weekend’s Caribbean carnival celebrations in New York with its continued support of Caribbean culture and festivals.

BET J has reached a deal with the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) that will give the network a prominent presence in all pre-parade shows this weekend as millions prepare for a colorful Labor Day parade on Eastern Parkway on Monday, September 4, 2006.

The freshly inked strategic alliance provides BET J with a prominent presence at the carnival marketplace at the Brooklyn Museum at the highly anticipated pre-parade shows which begin on Thursday, August 31 and include Ladies Nite Out, Brass Festival and the Panorama competition. It culminates with the big Dimanche Gras showcase on Sunday, featuring the Calypso King of the World, the Mighty Sparrow.

For WIADCA, the partnership offers national and international television exposure on the network in 2007. “I am particularly happy for this opportunity to take carnival coverage to another level,” says Yolanda Lezama-Clark, president of the Association. “When I assumed the presidency of the organization, this was one of my stated goals. I am also elated that BET J has stepped up to the plate to make this possible and at the same time, give Caribbean people a greater opportunity to be seen on the word stage.”

Cybelle Brown, Vice President of Sales and Marketing with BET Digital Networks, said the new partnership was just the start of the network’s efforts to reach out to the Caribbean-American community. “The Caribbean Diaspora is and will continue to be an important constituency for us at BET J. We are pleased about this new partnership because it draws attention to an incredibly vibrant and economically viable market.”

This year marks the 39th anniversary of the parade which now attracts upwards of three million people to Eastern Parkway. For more information, visit www.wiadca.org.
