Bashment Granny Fever hits South Florida
PEMBROKE PINES – Bashment Granny 2 is not only the hottest name in Jamaican entertainment today but undoubtedly the biggest Jamaican comedy play ever either roots or traditional. Sold out in all it’s venues at home and abroad, setting attendance records at every location, flopping any show, music or theatre that plays at the same time.
For example, Valentine’s Day- Montego Bay – 2,800
Mother’s Day – Mas Camp, New Kingston – 5,200
Labor Day – Cable & Wireless Golf Academy – 13,000 *(flopping the Reggae vs Dancehall show featuring Beres Hammond and Beenie Man).
In the US, the demand has been the same, New York will be seeing the third return of Bashment and in England 4 sold out shows have resulted in request for 16 in October. Here in Florida anticipated response have prompted the promoters, Sunshine Theatre to add a third show.
Since the release of the Bashment Granny video, which itself has become the # 1 selling Jamaican video at home and abroad and this has fueled the excitement for Bashment Granny 2 and its star Keith ‘Shebada’ Ramsay.
Shebada has developed a cult following, primarily of women, both young and old to almost Michael Jackson proportions and he is mobbed wherever he goes.
In Florida everyone wants to see Shebada and in conversation recently, one woman (maybe in her forties) remarked that she had to see Shebada as she needed him to teach her ‘the wine’ (dance) so she can keep her man at home. He leads an all star cast in this show that includes Maxwell ‘Maama Man’ Grant, Voliere ‘Maffie’ Johnson, Deon Silvera , Abigail Grant and Junior Williams. Bashment Granny 2 was written by Garfield ‘Bad Boy Trevor’ Reid and is directed by Michael Nicholson.

Not since the nineties with ‘Ecstasy’ or ‘The Best of Oliver –Live’ has any play generated the type of anticipation or excitement as this one has. “If you are reading this and you have friends or family in Jamaica, ask them about the phenomenon called Bashment Granny and see their response”. “Americans have their Tyler Perry and ‘Madea’, Jamaicans have their Bashment Granny” says Mike Shaw.
“If you have not caught the fever that is sweeping South Florida you soon will”. “We strongly recommend you get your tickets early as this might be the only chance you get to experience Shebada and Bashment Granny 2” says Mike Shaw, Director Sunshine Theatre.
