PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Antigua and Barbuda has been elected as chair of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) with Tourism Minister Harold Lovell’s election at the CTO’s Annual General Meeting on Sunday, October 26.
Minister Lovell, who was elected unopposed, will replace Hon. Allen Chastanet as chairman of the CTO Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism.

In keeping with changes to the CTO constitution – adopted at the Ministers’ meeting in Washington in June – Antigua’s Director General of Tourism or another representative named by the Minister, will head the CTO Board of Directors.
Six vice chairs were also elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers. They are the United States Virgin Islands representing the US Caribbean territories; Curacao representing the Dutch Caribbean; Martinique- representing the French Caribbean; St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago from the Caribbean Community grouping and the British Virgin Islands from the British Overseas Territories. The Spanish Caribbean members of CTO are to decide later which country will represent this grouping. Each of these Member Countries will form the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, which will be completed with representatives from the private sector.
Today’s vote was in keeping with the CTO constitution which mandates that elections must be held every two years.
