PHILADELPHIA, PA – The 12th Annual Miss Caribbean U.S. Beauty Pageant will be on Saturday, July 7, 2012. It starts at 5:00 PM at Martin Luther King High School in Northwest Philadelphia.

The school is located at 6100 Stenton Avenue, (Stenton and Haines Street). The doors will open at 4:30pm. Founded by Pageant Director Yolanda Wallace, she says while the pageant is entitled a ‘beauty pageant”, it is a true celebration of education, sophistication, talent via enchanted, young beauties, accompanied by Caribbean culture, food, traditions and history.

Contestants will participate in cultural dances and attire from the Caribbean. They will each go through an on-stage interview. They will also have a talent segment. There will be a swimsuit segment too. Of course, there will be a fabulous evening gown segment.

Contestants this year will represent the following Caribbean Islands: Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Islander USA, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico, Guyana, Dominican Republic, U.S. Virgin Isles, Guadeloupe and Antigua Barbuda.

The event is a ticketed event, because it is a fund raiser for young ladies with Caribbean heritage, who are currently enrolled in a college or university. Scholarship recipients are selected by the board of directors of the MCUSBP, Inc. In advance scholarship applicants being considered for scholarships are required to fill out an application form and write an essay on why they need the support for college.

The winner of the Miss Caribbean U.S. Beauty Pageant gets a cash prize that changes each year. This prize is based on the money made from the pageant. She also receives a three-photo spread in different Caribbean travel magazines. The winner will have several radio and cable TV interviews. She will also be featured in print media during her year as an ambassador for the Caribbean. Additionally, she will have travel opportunities in the USA. She will support and promote her platform and the MCUSBP’s mission. A trip to the Caribbean is also provided for the winner.
