Winner of the Oprah Winfrey Network’s “Your Own Show” Promotion Visits St. Thomas

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – With its continued efforts to increase awareness for the Territory and through its ongoing relationships with leading media outlets in the U.S., the Department of Tourism uncovered a broadcast opportunity with OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. As a result, California resident Michael Lambie and his wife Ann Marie visited St. Thomas from August 31through September 4 to celebrate their one-year anniversary.

Michael won a four-night/five-day giveaway as part of the promotional partnership the DOT secured with the network’s “Your Own Show” – a reality television series that featured 10 contestants competing for the opportunity to have their own talk show and become famous. Approximately 3 million viewers per episode watched the show, which started airing in January 2011 in conjunction with the official launch of the OWN network.

For this promotion, the Department of Tourism actively pursued and secured the opportunity with support from Sugar Bay Resort & Spa (formerly Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa), which provided the hotel accommodations for Michael and his wife’s visit.

“We are excited that Mr. and Mrs. Lambie celebrated their one-year anniversary with us and enjoyed the variety of couple-friendly and romantic activities available throughout the Territory,” said Commissioner of Tourism, Beverly Nicholson-Doty. “Partnering with this newly launched network, which is tied to the famous Oprah Winfrey provided us with a great opportunity to gain both national and international exposure for the Territory.”
