WICB Countries Get First Pick Of ICC WT20 2010 Tickets
BARBADOS – Residents in the six member-territories of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will have the first opportunity to buy tickets for the upcoming International Cricket Council’s (ICC) World Twenty20 West Indies, 2010 competition. Tickets will go on sale in less than two weeks.
Between November 1 and 14, fans in Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, the Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and the Windward Islands will have their choice of some of the best seats ‘in the house’ for the tournament, which will be held from April 30 to May 16, 2010 in four Caribbean territories.
This two-week window before international sales commence on November 15, is to ensure that Caribbean nationals have the opportunity to enjoy and participate in the second international cricketing event to be staged in the region – and the expectation is that they will account for a large percentage of the fan base.
Recently-appointed Tournament Director, Robert Bryan, explained: “Caribbean fans love their cricket and with the ICC’s newest tournament – the WT20 championship – coming to our shores, the objective is to give home fans the chance to get their tickets first, to be part of what promises to be an amazing two weeks of ‘sportainment.’
“We hope they take advantage of this offer because we anticipate that tickets will sell out quickly given the attractive pricing, which will see preliminary matches costing as low as US$5, while the maximum price is US$40 for the finals in Barbados. In addition, there will be double-headers every day, so one ticket gets you two matches,” he added.
Within the Leeward grouping, eight countries – Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, Nevis, the US Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and St. Maarten- will benefit from this gesture, while there are four countries in the Windward Islands cluster which will do likewise, those being Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Tickets will go on sale online at www.iccevents.yahoo.com from Sunday November 1, and at ticket offices from Monday November 2 in Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad. International purchasers may buy tickets online from Sunday November 15, and from the international call centre by dialling 0207 998 3125 (UK).
Payments may be made via credit card online, or at the call centre and via credit card, debit cards and cash at ticket offices.
Fans who purchase tickets between November 2009 and February 2010 will receive a booking confirmation or confirmation email. They will receive their ‘souvenir’ tickets in early April 2010 via courier, or from a designated collection outlet.
