US Candidate/North Miami Mayor Travels to Haiti for Earth Week

NORTH MIAMI – North Miami Mayor, Kevin A. Burns, has a full schedule of Earth Week festivities that will take him from North Miami to Haiti. The activities begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25th with the “Keep North Miami Beautiful” citywide cleanup kickoff at the Enchanted Forest Park, 1725 NE 135 Street, in North Miami.

Mayor Burns will then join 700 volunteers at the Comcast Cares Day, a company-wide cleanup project at the Oleta River State Park.

Later that morning, the activities take an international turn when he sets off to Port-de-Paix, Haiti to continue the construction of a new park and playground. The city of Port-de-Paix, located in the Northwest area of the country, has been a mutual partner with North Miami for several years.

Under the leadership of North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns and the ongoing efforts of Nordouest Environmental, North Miami has been able to provide assistance that has been the catalyst for development in Port-de-Paix, resulting in a new water purification system that was installed early this year at the Immaculate Conception Hospital and a variety of cleanup projects, including the park project planned for this weekend.

The mission is to ultimately create an environmentally-friendly landfill that would service the Northwest region to provide a proper system of garbage and trash disposal for the residents of this area.
