U.S. Embassy hosts pre-departure seminar for Jamaican students studying in the U.S.

WASHINGTON – The Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy will host its annual pre-departure seminar for Jamaican students who have been admitted to a college or university in the U.S. for the 2010/2011 academic year. The event will be held on Monday, June 21 at the Hilton Hotel, Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 5, starting at 11:00 a.m.

The seminar, dubbed “The More You Know Before You Go,” is designed to assist students in their transition to the United States and its system of education. At the two-hour session parents, teachers and students will be provided with academic and cultural information in order to better prepare for living and studying United States.

A consular representative will also be on hand to answer any questions pertaining to student visas and the application process. In addition, a panel of students currently enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities will share their social, cultural and academic experiences with attendees and answer any questions.

Students, parents and teachers interested in attending the event should contact the Public Affairs Section’s Information Resource Center at 702-6172 to confirm their attendance.
