Trinidad & Tobago Recognized As Island Of The Year

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Trinidad and Tobago is the 2009 Caribbean World International Travel Awards Island of the Year.

Two Tobago properties – the recently upgraded Coco Reef Resort and Blue Haven Hotel – were also recognised, winning Best Luxury Resort Hotel and Best Boutique Hotel respectively.

Speaking with a local newspaper, Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Joseph Ross, described the win as recognition of “everyone within the local tourism industry that continues to put their hard work and passion into delivering a unique tourism product.”

“To be recognized as the Caribbean’s leading holiday destination is a credit to the sustained efforts of our hoteliers, tour guides, transport providers and tour operators,” Ross told the local media.

In its 15th year, the Caribbean World Travel Awards recognises excellence in travel, tourism and real estate among the islands. The winners of these prestigious awards, considered by many in the industry as the Oscars of the Caribbean, are voted on by the editors and readers of Caribbean World Travel and Living Magazine.

Recognising the best of the travel industry, the awards are firmly established among Britain’s foremost prize giving ceremonies. It has become an exclusive club within Caribbean tourism, honouring excellence among islands and services that provide entertainment, comfort and value for those who make the destination their holiday favourite.

The most southern islands in the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago offers visitors some of the most diverse cultural and natural landscapes in the Caribbean. Trinidad, the larger of the two islands, is a hub for culture and business tourism, bolstered by its vibrant energy industry and rich ethnic mix, while Tobago offers travellers pristine beaches, picturesque fishing villages, stunning underwater reefs and exciting food festivals and cuisine.
