How Trinidad & Tobago Celebrates Easter

With activities from goat races to Easter egg hunts, Trinidad & Tobago celebrates in traditional and non-traditional ways

 PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – When visiting Trinidad & Tobago during the Easter Season, celebrated this year from Good Friday, March 25 to Easter Monday, March 28, visitors can expect to participate in a myriad of activities and delight with the added bonus of Easter Tuesday celebrations in Tobago.

Rich in culture and diversity, Trinidad & Tobago is known for its many festivals and holidays throughout the year. This year, the dual-island nation has been gifted with several long weekends that are jam-packed with events to suit the most discerning traveler.

Easter in Tobago is a unique celebration in which many visitors travel to the island to watch goat and crab racing at Buccoo on ‘Easter Tuesday.’ A highlight of the Easter season, goat and crab races are important activities to many families visiting Tobago. The event usually starts with a lively street parade and involves mouthwatering local dishes prepared by residents who open their homes to visitors.

In addition to the races, locals and visitors go to popular beaches like Maracas and Las Cuevas in Trinidad and Store Bay, Black Rock and Pigeon Point in Tobago to relax, swim and enjoy popular street foods like doubles, bake & shark and curried crab and dumplings. It is also common to see children flying kites and joining in the fun of Easter Bonnet parades, Easter egg hunts and other community based activities.

The islands of Trinidad & Tobago offer similar experiences in the realm of entertainment and nightlife. Known for its incomparable nightlife scene, Trinidad offers clubs, fine dining restaurants and bars throughout the hit strip of Ariapita Avenue and across various places around the country.

In Tobago, sport bars and restaurants are already preparing to host stage shows and dance parties, featuring some of the top calypsonians and disc jockeys on the islands. Popular places to look for when in Tobago are Shade Night Club in Bon Accord as well as Barcode in Scarborough. Many restaurants and bars, especially in the Crown Point area, offer a variety of nightly live entertainment, including pool halls, karaoke nights and variety shows with live music.
