The US Embassy Cosponsors the Barbados International Film Festival
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – For the second consecutive year the United States Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean has partnered with organizers of the Barbados International Film Festival.
The festival was launched at the historic George Washington House on Wednesday December 3rd, 2008 with a reception and premiere of the independent film “While She Was Out”, starring Oscar winner Kim Basinger opposite Lucas Haas. The film is directed by Susan Monford.
The festival runs from December 03 – 07, 2008.

In a brief address to those gathered at the cozy cinema at George Washington House, Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy Dr. Brent Hardt noted that the Embassy was pleased to be associated once again with the Film Festival.
He said the Barbados International Film Festival is a celebration of film, both in and out of competition, showcasing the very best of filmmakers and story-tellers . The Festival features a rich menu of local and global, new and classic, festival
Dr. Hardt added that while films are primarily for entertainment, they also serve to introduce us to different cultures, people and places. Films have served to educate, to break down barriers, and to cause us to see and even feel the experiences of those we thought were so different from us.
Even in the world of diplomacy the shared experience and enjoyment of a screen gem has been known to bring unity where only perceived differences existed,” he added.
