The Miami Herald and WPBT2 To Premiere Nou Bouke: Haiti’s Past, Present And Future, A Documentary On Haiti

Miami – In less than a minute, as many as 300,000 people were dead. Most will forever be lost, buried beneath a pile of debris once considered their home. WPBT2 will premiere Nou Bouke: Haiti’s Past, Present and Future, an hour-long documentary produced by The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald and directed by Joe Cardona, on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 9:00 p.m.

Nou Bouke, a Creole term for “We’re Tired,” focuses on Haiti’s past, present and future in the light of the apocalyptic January 12, 2010 earthquake that now marks a new chapter in the nation’s history. The documentary presents a comprehensive look at the Haitian polemic as the Caribbean nation faces perhaps its most challenging crossroads due to the immense loss of life and destruction. It depicts the many perspectives that surround the hopes and aspirations of the Haitian people as they move forward into a future full of uncertainty.

“The magnitude of this catastrophe really required coverage beyond traditional news stories from the field. We hope this film provides insight and provokes some reflection on Haiti’s plight,” said Nancy San Martin, executive producer of Nou Bouke: Haiti’s Past, Present and Future. “This film shed light on a new reality. My perspective shifted as I learned, understood and appreciated more about Haiti’s past, present and future,” said Joe Cardona, director of Nou Bouke: Haiti’s Past, Present and Future..

WPBT2 will broadcast an encore of Nou Bouke: Haiti’s Past, Present and Future on January 13 at 8:00 p.m. Following the broadcast, a live question and answer session will be held at WPBT2 studios. Viewers can call in and ask the filmmaker and producers questions about the documentary as well as share their reactions and experiences.
