Several Oil companies express interest in Barbados

BARBADOS – Less than a week after Barbados launched its Offshore Oil Exploration Licensing Round, 60 companies have already indicated an interest in the activity.

This disclosure has come from Minister of Energy and the Environment, Elizabeth Thompson, who said that representatives of the companies were extremely enthusiastic and a number of them attended Thursday’s (June 28) Latin America Forum luncheon because they wanted another opportunity to speak to the Barbados delegation.

“They wanted to say to us that even though they were not at the road show on Wednesday, they are very serious about looking at Barbados and would want us to keep them in mind. When we had the Barbados presentation, there were about 20 companies that had exhibited an interest; so between last.

On Friday, June 29 and Thursday, June 28 60 companies have expressed an interest,” she revealed.

“That tends to support the notion that the industry is taking this opportunity seriously and that based on the geological data, they feel that there is a tremendous possibility of a strike of some sort, whether oil or gas,” Ms. Thompson stated.

She reiterated that some companies had already started to buy the data packages and she stressed that they would not have purchased them unless they recognized that there was something in it for them and that there was a real chance of an oil find.

While addressing a luncheon Thursday, June 28 for representatives of oil companies doing on and offshore work in Latin America and the Gulf of Mexico, Ms. Thompson sought to assure them that Barbados was a good place to invest and outlined the opportunities available and the business and political climate that exists here.
