The inaugural Tobago International Sea to Sea Marathon

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad–The prestigious International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) recently certified the Tobago marathon course for the first ever International Sea to Sea Marathon scheduled for May 21 & 22, 2016.

“The International Sea to Sea Marathon is designed to be a platform to showcase Tobago and draw high value visitors to the island.” explains Garth Alleyne, Director, Strategic Relations for Sea to Sea Events Ltd.  “The Marathon will draw runners and visitors from around the world for a full weekend of activities with 5K and 10K races on May 21 and half and full marathons on May 22.”

Partnering with multiple stakeholders, including the Tourism Development Company Ltd. (TDC), the Sea to Sea Marathon is the first AIMS/IAAF certified course in Tobago and will be offering a whopping $US60,000 prize package, making it the most lucrative race in the Caribbean.

Starting in the pristine Main Ridge Forest Reserve near Bloody Bay on the Caribbean Sea, the marathon provides participants with an opportunity to run from the Caribbean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean through Tobago’s ancient rainforest, picturesque villages and the island’s capital of Scarborough. The race proceeds through Roxborough-Tobago’s second largest town located on the Atlantic Sea coast, then runs south along Windward Road flanked by the Atlantic coast and on to the 26.2-mile distance finish line in Lambeau Beach, Little Rockly Bay.

As Tobago moves to take advantage of the new trend of combining exciting participatory sports with authentic engagement of local people, the Sea to Sea Marathon will boost visitor arrivals during a traditionally slower period of the year (May) for the Tobago tourism sector.

Tobago MarathonThe inaugural Sea to Sea Marathon is targeting 500 international runners and visitors to participate in this unique Tobago event, which is projected to be one of the leading major sports and tourism push in Tobago. Special prizes will be awarded to young participants as well as male and female runners.
