The Caribbean Bar Association (CBA), South Florida Celebrates 16th Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet – Honoring 50th Independence of Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago

BROWARD COUNTY – The Caribbean Bar Association (CBA), South Florida chapter, will celebrate its 16th annual Scholarship Banquet on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., at the Seminole HardRock Hotel and Casino, 1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, FL 33026.

This year’s event will recognize and honor the 50th anniversary of Independence of Jamaica and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The banquet raises funds to support the organization’s many philanthropic efforts, including the award of scholarships to minority students pursuing tertiary studies in law. Students who are awarded the scholarships are provided with the opportunity to work as interns for Judges in County Courts in Dade and Broward as well as at law firms in the area.

The annual event also recognizes persons in the local tri-county community who have made outstanding contributions to community development. This year’s honorees include Channel 10 News Reporter/Weekend Anchor Neki Mohan of Trinidad & Tobago descent, and renowned Jamaican dub poet and law enforcement officer, Malachi Smith. Patrons will be entertained with musical performances by celebrated Jamaican tenor, Steve Higgins, and Tobago-born singer/songwriter, Nigel Lewis. Guests will enjoy flavorful Caribbean-themed food and will dance the night away to the sounds of DJ Dorenzo.
