The American Friends of Jamaica Charity Soiree (March 31st) Gets Major Support

MIAMI – The American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) announces more news in anticipation of the organization’s 8th annual Peacock Soiree in South Florida on Saturday, March 31, 2012 starting at 6:30 p.m.

To mark the 2012 International Humanitarian Award, the AFJ will honor Dr. the Honorable Maurice William Facey O.J. J.P. and Mrs. Valerie Facey. This year’s sponsors include Pan Jamaican Investment Trust Group, Baptist Health South Florida, The Cobb Family Foundation, Sandals Resorts and Diageo.

Reggae legend, Freddie McGregor will entertain with his many reggae classics. Mr. McGregor reached the peak of his popularity in Jamaica and England in the early ‘80s. He has remained a strong presence on the reggae scene well into the new millennium.

Those seeking a good party will have access to “Cocktail Tickets” for enjoying the musical performance, dancing to music by DJ Richie D, open bar and finger foods. This exciting new category of tickets is priced at $150 per person.
The 8th annual Peacock Soiree is an opportunity for the Jamaican diaspora community and friends of Jamaica to support improvement in the areas of education, healthcare and economic development. All while enjoying good friends, food and music.

The soiree will include its traditional silent auction featuring a highly coveted selection of items at a silent auction, cocktails and a dinner, all to the benefit of Jamaicans in need. To date, the AFJ has presented grants to over 65 entities. The AFJ demonstrates the power of collaboration and support to help engage people from underserved communities.

“We are committed to help build the nation of Jamaica. With the support of the AFJ Board of Directors, volunteers and other external partners, we make every effort to respond to the requests and help those in need realize their fullest potential”, said AFJ Executive Director, Caron S. Chung.
