Sunrise Airways Cleared For Take-Off To Santiago de Cuba

Sunrise LogoPORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Sunrise Airways will expand its Western Caribbean route network later this month with the launch of new service from its hub in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Santiago de Cuba, Cuba.

The new flights, which begin October 30, 2014, mark the Haitian carrier’s first-ever regularly scheduled passenger service to Cuba. (Sunrise has operated charter flights between Port-au-Prince and Holguín, Cuba since November 2013.)

“These new flights are historic for Sunrise Airways, as well as for Haiti and Cuba,” said Philippe Bayard, President of Sunrise Airways. “Cuba figures prominently in our long-term expansion plans, so establishing scheduled passenger service there is a great step forward for us. At the same time, there are also strong cultural ties between Haiti and Santiago de Cuba stemming from the migration to the city that took place in the years following the Haitian Revolution. From a cultural standpoint, Haiti and Santiago de Cuba have been joined at the hip for more than 200 years. Now, with our new flights, the two are closer than ever before.”

New Sunrise Airways flights between Port-au-Prince, Haiti and Santiago de Cuba, Cuba will operate twice weekly – Thursdays and Sundays.

Connecting service is also available through Port-au-Prince from Sunrise Airways flights originating in Cap Haitien and Santo Domingo, Dominica Republic.

Sunrise Airways will initially deploy 19-seat Jetstream 32 EP aircraft on its new Santiago de Cuba service, providing ample head- and leg-room, plus the added comfort of refurbished cabins and fresh upholstered seating.
