ST. LUCIA – Saint Lucia is well on the way to meeting it’s November 1st deadline for the passage of legislation to facilitate the staging of the ICC Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean.
The Office of the Prime Minister says the Sunset Legislation has been drafted and has gone through a first reading in parliament.
The Parliament of Saint Lucia is scheduled to meet on October 24th and it is expected that the bill will be presented for second and final reading at that session.
Saint Lucia has been active in preparing itself for World Cup with most outstanding matters complete or nearing completion. A family of laws entitled Sunset Legislation has to be passed to facilitate the hosting of cricket. To date Saint Lucia has passed the Tourism Accommodation and Bed and Breakfast legislation.
The Cricket World Cup Act is a critical bill which deals with, among other issues, control of activities covering false and misleading advertising, sale and distribution of tickets, commercial broadcasting, recording telecasting or filming of Cricket World Cup Activities.
The Local Organizing Committee for Cricket World Cup has been facilitating community consultations on these critical areas of Saint Lucia’s participation in the event, as Government promotes it as a product of all Saint Lucia.
