BCS Group and Orange Bowl Unveil 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game Logo

MIAMI LAKES — Marking the second time South Florida will “double host” two BCS Bowl games — the Discover Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 2013, and the Discover BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 7, 2013 — the BCS group and the Orange Bowl Committee have unveiled the 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game logo.

The BCS National Championship Game logo incorporates colors and elements that represent the beauty of South Florida. The blue waves represent the world famous beaches of South Florida, while the iconic Orange Bowl orange represents nearly 80 years of college football excellence in South Florida. The orange border on the BCS National Championship Game logo ties together the rich tradition of the Orange Bowl with the Discover word mark.

“The group has created a logo that uniquely reflects South Florida and the spirit of college football,” BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock said. “We are delighted that the Orange Bowl Committee and South Florida are hosting the BCS National Championship Game for the fourth time; it’s another great example of the tradition of college football in that part of the world.”

In business for 25 years, Discover is in its third year as the title sponsor of the Orange Bowl and will sponsor its first BCS National Championship Game in 2013.

“The Orange Bowl Committee is very excited and proud to host both the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl and the 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game when the 19th national champion will be crowned in South Florida,” Eric Poms, Chief Executive Officer of the Orange Bowl Committee said. “With two games in the first week of January 2013, the focus of the college football universe will be on South Florida, and we look forward to being able to showcase the great assets of our region to the country.”

Since its first game on Jan. 1, 1935, the Orange Bowl has hosted 18 national champions and 16 Heisman Trophy award winners. During that time, the Orange Bowl Committee has grown into a not-for-profit 341-member, primarily volunteer organization that promotes and serves the South Florida community. The Orange Bowl has become a foundation of the South Florida community by supporting and producing year-round activities and events that have helped shape and promote the community’s image for 78 years.
